Diergaarde Blijdorp (Rotterdam Zoo)

Diergaarde Blijdorp is a progressive zoo that actively works for nature restoration and conservation. Discover and experience the beauty that the world's nature has to offer.

In Diergaarde Blijdorp you will come face to face with all the beauty that the world's nature has to offer. Meet the red pandas in the Himalayas and the giraffes and zebras on the savannah in Africa. Not to be missed is the Oceanium with the iconic Shark Tunnel: the largest aquarium for fish species from the North Sea.

21 National Monuments

Blijdorp has no less than 21 national monuments, including the Rivièrahal, the iconic entrance on the Van Aerssenlaan as a recognizable landmark in the city and the (former) giraffe house and tearoom. The Diergaarde was designed in 1938 by architect Sybold van Ravesteyn and is an icon in Rotterdam.

Saving endangered animal and plant species

Diergaarde Blijdorp is not just a park where you can see wild animals; here they are actively committed to their survival, to the preservation of biodiversity, the restoration of ecosystems and the promotion of sustainability. Diergaarde Blijdorp's vision is to have played a key role in saving ten endangered animal and plant species by 2050.

Your visit

Diergaarde Blijdorp is open seven days a week. From the back of Central Station it is about a ten minute walk to the entrance on the Rivièrahal side. Blijdorp also has a parking lot where you can park for 12.50 euros per day. Your visit to the zoo will be even more complete with a guided tour and/or the Blijdorp app. There are various restaurants and stalls to eat and drink something.
