De Machinekamer now also has a showroom in Rotterdam

Jeroen Veenstra

Founded in 2006, De Machinekamer originally focused on vintage designer furniture. Nowadays, it also designs new furniture and reissues old designs. After a showroom in Zaandam and Utrecht, there is now also a showroom in Rotterdam. In a former office building on the Schiedamse Vest, around the corner from the Witte de Withstraat.

At 730 m², it is the largest showroom to date. Meanwhile, it is well stocked with furniture from the vintage design collection and the unique new furniture from its own labels Sav & Økse, Galvanitas Compass Collection, Tubax and Dykmeyer.

Owners Olger and Rick: "We had been looking for a suitable location in Rotterdam for some time. Last year, we managed to secure this unique location. Right in the middle of Rotterdam's bustling city life, it is the first showroom in the heart of a city. A showroom in Rotterdam had long been on our wish list, to be more accessible to customers from Rotterdam, the surrounding area and the south of the country. With parking facilities nearby and good public transport connections, we are also easily accessible for people outside the city."

Vintage and new designer furniture

Just like the showrooms in Zaandam and Utrecht, Rotterdam offers a combination of vintage and new design. The spacious showroom features a fine collection of vintage design classics from the 1930s to the present, by well-known and lesser-known designers. There is also plenty of room for the extensive in-house collection, from labels Sav & Økse, Galvanitas Compass Collection, Tubax and Dykmeyer. Sav & Økse is the furniture collection with Scandinavian design. The Galvanitas Compass Collection consists of reissues of school furniture from the 1960s, including the iconic Galvanitas S16 chair. The Tubax and Dykmeyer brands are known for tubular frame furniture.

From cramped office building to open space

The showroom has undergone a major overhaul in recent months. Everything was taken out of the office building, from the glass walls to the flooring. New window frames bring in more light. A staircase in the middle of the room provides an open connection to the basement, which has thus become a pleasant space. The result is a bright showroom that does justice to the building's original structure.
