In his art and films, Jaasir Linger translates Surinamese cultural heritage into powerful narrative images. Additionally, he is active as a speaker and organizer of events (such as lectures and workshops) in the field of Afro-Surinamese cultural heritage, collaborating with various Surinamese heritage foundations and organizations.

In his art and films, Jaasir Linger translates Surinamese cultural heritage into powerful narrative images. Additionally, he is active as a speaker and organizer of events (such as lectures and workshops) in the field of Afro-Surinamese cultural heritage, collaborating with various Surinamese heritage foundations and organizations. Linger aims to contribute to the transfer of knowledge for current and future generations, particularly regarding Winti – a spiritual tradition that was long surrounded by ignorance and stigma due to a colonial ban until 1971. With his nomination for the Dolf Henkes Prize 2026, he is organizing a series of cross-disciplinary events with TENT focusing on Surinamese and broader diaspora cultures from Rotterdam. His sculpture Grontapu na asitere (2024) is also on display at TENT.

The first event curated by Jaasir Linger takes place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at TENT and focuses on women as bearers of culture. From his sculpture – a tribute to Sophie Redmond, Suriname’s first Black female doctor and advocate for Surinamese language and culture – moderator will Luus Malbons (ginger tea & lemon podcast) in conversation with Master Angisa-binder, among others Astrid Zweevel en Roxanne Austin (Prodo Misi- rental). The afternoon will be musically accompanied by the Vocal Group. Kwasiba and concluded with Surinamese snacks provided by Allakondre Catering. Owner Cleopatra O'Bryan will briefly explain the origin and meaning of the snacks.

Anyone who wishes is most welcome to appear in traditional cultural costume.
