Verhalen over slavernijverleden
Six women share personal stories about family, origins and the history of slavery in an intimate setting full of music and conversation. Makandra is a performance about what we carry, pass on and leave behind.
In fragments of the performance Makandra, six women tell their interconnected life stories, rooted in Curaçao, Suriname and the Netherlands. These stories touch on family, heritage and the history of slavery, and invite reflection. During the meeting, the women will talk to the audience and share memories, questions and music. It is a moment of connection, in which there is room for listening, talking and perhaps even dancing together. Makandra is an invitation to face our shared history and unpack the baggage we carry together.
