'Visnijd' is a tragic comedy in which jealousy, an unresolved past, growing older, love, eroticism, total hopelessness, a brilliant escape plan and onions play a major role.
Two elderly sisters, the blind Mathilde and the wheelchair-bound Elfride, would rather have had a different life. They are stuck together against their will and live in a remote house on a deserted island. Cut off from any other human contact with the outside world that is evil to them. They survive thanks to their ability to romanticize and in doing so give their past and gray present some frills. One day an attractive man washes up, Barend van Eck, still in the prime of his life. Then both ladies lose their temper and an erotic and terrifying game of cat and mouse ensues between this trio condemned to each other. Mathilde and Elfride want to be young again at the finish line of their lives and the sneaky Barend already looks old with his feigned innocence, while his life has yet to blossom.
