Portlantis Experience

In this tour of over 40 kilometres you will experience 100 years of port history, and discover the port of tomorrow and further into the future.

Sitting in a comfortable coach you will drive along Rotterdam’s Merwehaven, Waalhaven, Eemhaven, Botlek, Europoort and the Maasvlakte. Enjoy the beautiful views such as the Erasmus Bridge and the state-of-the-art container terminals and huge seagoing vessels on Maasvlakte 2. 

What will your day look like?  

It starts at Port Pavilion on the Leuvehaven in downtown Rotterdam. The port city’s residents and visitors are given information and inspiration here for entering into the port and really getting to know it. The 11-meter-long photo mural with its interactive projections gives a taste of what you will encounter during the day’s tour. Starting at Port Pavilion, we walk the group to Willemsplein at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge in 10 minutes. From here we go by coach across the port to Portlantis on Maasvlakte 2. On the way to the Maasvlakte, the port comes alive. The guide tells you all about the various areas of the port and the wide range of industries we encounter. Any questions? Feel free to ask them! 

Visit Portlantis and take a boat trip 

At Portlantis you will discover all about the port of today and tomorrow. The coach then takes you to the boat trip boarding location. Experience how everything is big, bigger or biggest! We sail right under the tallest container cranes, encounter the very largest container ships and pass colossal quay walls. Get an update on the offshore activities of Sif, manufacturer of huge foundation piles for offshore wind turbines. Or check out the expansion of Neste, producer of renewable biofuels. On board, the Portlantis guide tells you everything you’ve always wanted to know about Europe’s smartest and most state-of-the-art port (in Dutch). Foreign speakers can follow an audio tour via their smartphones. Don’t forget your headphones! After the boat trip, board the tour bus and depart for downtown Rotterdam again.
