Otherworldly Artefacts expositie

Design and photography exhibition at the Hofbogen!

Group exhibition of design art and photography at the Hofbogen, until Friday, December 19!

In Otherworldly Artefacts, artist and designer Maarten Diederix draws inspiration from the organic world—streamlined animal forms, soft botanical lines, and the quiet geometry found in nature. Rather than literally copying these forms, he abstracts them, transforming familiar objects into pieces that seem to subtly come to life. His artifacts possess a gentle tension: the warmth of natural influences juxtaposed with the clear, precise hand of the maker. The result is objects that feel both recognizable and slightly mysterious, as if they belong in a parallel ecosystem where function and sculpture converge.

Photographers Mathijs Labadie and Casper Rila worked closely with Diederix and were given complete freedom to interpret his creations in their own way. Drawn by the unusual contours of the objects, they approached them almost as if they were found relics—fragments that allude to distant places or forgotten stories. Their search for an environment that could sustain this quiet mystique led them to the dunes, where wind, sand, and open space formed a fitting backdrop. In this encounter between object and landscape, the photographs further develop Diederix's imagined world and imbue each artifact with the feeling of belonging to an unknown past.
