Onni Culture Night #10: Schaamte, stilte en mentale kracht
An evening about shame, mental health and strength within the Asian community. With music, stories and healing and by guest curator Hohe Zheng.
On Friday evening, Onni Rotterdam organizes a special edition of Culture Night.
This tenth edition is curated by guest curator Hohe Zheng. Hohe is the founder of YIQI, a platform for stories from the Chinese community. She asks: What does it mean to be vulnerable in a culture where silence is seen as strength?
Theme of the evening
Shame and Mental Health in the Asian Community.
In many Asian families, talking about feelings or therapy is difficult. There is often a taboo on mental problems. Shame plays a major role in this. It is not only about yourself, but also about your family and environment. During this evening we will look together for ways to understand shame and to draw strength from it.
Program in brief
1. Music: Guzheng performance
2. Lecture by Kitlyn Tjin A Djie
3. Panel discussion: Three personal stories
4. Closing: Breathwork and sound healing
Stay for a drink and a snack afterwards. A chance to meet others, share stories or just have a quiet chat.
