In Language: no broblem, maker and performer Marah Haj investigates how language moves between people, borders and systems of power. Based on her personal experiences in Belgium and the voices of her family under occupation, she shows how language can simultaneously connect and oppress. Palestinian Arabic, Hebrew, French and Dutch become entangled in stories about memory, identity and loss. The theatre becomes a place where different realities collide – sometimes confusing, sometimes painful, sometimes absurd. With humour, anger and tenderness, Marah shows how language is constantly being reshaped by who uses it and under what circumstances. She investigates the boundaries of what is translatable, and what is lost in that process.
