Language: no broblem
Language: no broblem is a poetic and personal performance about multilingualism, power and identity. Marah Haj weaves family stories, memories and language politics into a compelling and layered story.
In Language: no broblem, maker and performer Marah Haj investigates how language moves between people, borders and systems of power. Based on her personal experiences in Belgium and the voices of her family under occupation, she shows how language can simultaneously connect and oppress. Palestinian Arabic, Hebrew, French and Dutch become entangled in stories about memory, identity and loss. The theatre becomes a place where different realities collide – sometimes confusing, sometimes painful, sometimes absurd. With humour, anger and tenderness, Marah shows how language is constantly being reshaped by who uses it and under what circumstances. She investigates the boundaries of what is translatable, and what is lost in that process. Language: no broblem is both a personal and political statement, an ode to the resilience of language and the people who continue to speak in it. A performance full of sound, power and critical imagination.
