KASSIEWIJLE

The installation KASSIEWIJLE combines visual art and poetry, with drawings of birds and accompanying poems that together form a whole.

The installation KASSIEWIJLE subtly combines visual art and poetry. Ten oil pastel drawings of birds by Sue Wiggers form the core of the work. Each image is accompanied by a short poem, written and narrated by Marijke Boon. The poems can be heard through headphones, creating a unified whole between image and word.

The birds in the drawings were found by artists Sue Wiggers and Marijke Boon along beaches, dunes, tide lines, and roads—alive or dead, often encountered in unexpected situations. Wiggers enlarges, reduces, and places the birds in varying positions, inviting the viewer to look closely and discover for themselves. The delicate realism of her work is given an extra dimension by the arrangement: boxes and columns.

Boon's short poems are the unifying factor in this image. With a touch of humor, Boon often offers a perspective beyond the initial association. She invites the viewer to look differently—at Sue Wiggers' bird drawings and at birds in their natural habitat, alive or otherwise.
