INTRO Opening - (in)vocation door Bruno Neves
In the exhibition “(in)vocation, artist Bruno Neves researches the mysterious history and oeuvre of the Hillevliet building, with a focus on its previous function as a vocational school. Through a selection of archival material ranging back to the 1920’s and a new series of oil paintings, the exhibition reflects on the role this building has played in the neighbourhood and the city of Rotterdam during her 98 years of existence, and all the life that its hallways and classrooms have seen. Inspired by archival footage from the 1970’s, the paintings invoke a bygone era where craftsmanship stood central, and the means of production of household furniture and appliances still relied greatly on human labour.
The official opening of the exhibition will take place on the 3rd of September from 5-8pm, and the exhibition will be on display until the 31st of October.
A reduced selection of paintings and archival material will be on display already from 4th of august until the official opening on September 3rd.
