IFFR college tour - meet the director!

Always wanted to know what goes on at the organization of one of the biggest film festivals in the Netherlands? Then come along and meet Managing Director Clare Stewart and coordinator data marketing (and alumnus ESHCC) Laurin Ivetić. Afterwards, you will see a top film from IFFR 2025: Rains over Babel.

Led by lecturer Fraser Robinson (ESHCC), we will find out what steps are needed before the International Film Festival Rotterdam can take place again at the end of January 2026.

Clare Stewart (Managing Director) will be joined by former ESHCC student and Coordinator Data Marketing Laurin Ivetić to discuss the importance of data for the festival.

About the film Rains over Babel:

Watch the trailer!

Written and directed by Gala del Sol, this peculiar reimagining of Dante’s Inferno is a choral psychedelic drama. The action revolves around Babel, a bar where several characters meet with La Flaca – the very incarnation of Death – with whom souls can gamble years of their lives in an attempt to outwit her. That’s how we meet Dante, who tries to unravel the secrets of his past before his contract with La Flaca expires; Monet, rushing to reclaim his body before it decomposes; Timbí and Uma, fighting to save beloved family members; and Jacob, experiencing an inner battle while preparing for his first drag performance.

Funny, eccentric, romantic, and with huge doses of mysticism and myth, Rains over Babel incorporates a diverse cast of characters with fluid gender identities facing everyday problems: love, intolerance, betrayal, meaning, salvation. This mystery of haunted memories, forking paths and intertwined destinies enveloped in magical realism (take close note of that speaking salamander!), underground punk aesthetics (the production design is spectacular), and goofy visual experimentation.
