Gratis zaterdagworkshop #2 — Onderbreking: Taal als breuk (uitingen van woede en verdriet) uitingen van woede en verdriet
Free Saturday workshops at Melly Art Institute.
Education & Participation Space
Since the opening of our Education & Participation Space, Kunstinstituut Melly has become a vibrant place for workshops, lectures, and collective learning experiences. Every Saturday, we organize free workshops, open to everyone, focusing on creativity, connection, and personal expression.
In January 2026, the Saturday workshops led by Nurdan Ariöz at Sleutelverhalen offered participants the opportunity to explore personal memories, images, and sounds. These were brought together in a collective story archive and small, tangible objects, inviting reflection on their own experiences and meanings.
In February 2026, the Saturday workshops led by Sabrina Schoop in Poetic Diaspora offered participants the space to experiment with language, words, and personal memories.
In March 2026, the Tip of the Tongue workshop series, led by Veronika Babayan, will explore multilingualism, migration, and memory through dried fruit. Participants will create fruit necklaces inspired by expressions from different languages, reflecting on care, loss, humor, and change. Language becomes something you can see, touch, and compose. Come and experience a language that cannot be expressed in words!
The Education & Participation Space serves as a place for learning, exchange, and collective imagination, where participants meet, share ideas, and explore new forms of creation together.
Workshop series — Veronika Babayan
In March 2026, Kunstinstituut Melly is organizing a special workshop series led by Veronika Babayan. In Tip of the Tongue, participants explore multilingualism, migration, and memory through collective and sensory processes of production. Language is translated into visual and tactile forms, combining, cropping, and merging words and expressions from different languages. Multilingualism is approached as nonlinear, discontinuous, and constantly evolving.
The first workshop focuses on transmission and inheritance through expressions of care. The second explores rupture, silence, and loss. The third explores transformation, centering on humor, hybridity, and absurdity to demonstrate how language survives and changes over time and distance.
The workshop series is open to everyone and requires no prior knowledge, inviting participants to work with language in an experimental and creative way.
Workshop #2 — Interruption: Language as rupture (expressions of anger and sadness)
In the second workshop, participants explore what happens to language when it is repressed, forbidden, or forgotten. Using images, drawings, and collected materials, they translate expressions of loss, anger, or absence into visual forms. Through this process, participants reflect on silence, on what cannot be said, and on how meaning shifts, creating a personal and collective sense of language breakdown.
