Geert Mak over zijn boek Wisselwachter - Amerika-Europa 1933-1945
Geert Mak will be interviewed this afternoon by Maria Heiden about his new book Wisselwachter. Amerika-Europa 1933-1945. A whirling and personal history about America and Europe in turbulent times, full of dilemmas about democracy, economy and war. With subsequent signing.
In an in-depth conversation with Maria Heiden, Geert Mak talks about Wisselwachter , his latest book in which he describes the turbulent period between 1933 and 1945. Based on the life of Harry Hopkins – Roosevelt's confidant and linchpin in the Allied Alliance – Mak outlines the political forces that determined the fate of Europe and America. The book interweaves grand history with intimate portraits of people around the White House, such as Eleanor Roosevelt and Missy LeHand. Wisselwachter is about choices in times of crisis, and exposes painful parallels with our own time. After the interview, there will be an opportunity to sign and meet the author.
