Based on Kurban Said's 1937 masterpiece Ali and Nino about the forbidden love between the Muslim Ali and the Christian Nino.
Ali and Nino (1937) is the love story of a Muslim boy and a Christian girl who fall in love in the multicultural city of Baku. This 'Romeo and Juliet story from the East' is still relevant today, with themes such as biculturalism and differences in origin and social status.
In the hands of master storyteller Abdelkader Benali and pianist Daria van den Bercken, it becomes a humorous and musical performance about origin, identity and love.
