In The Silent Woman, Dilan Yurdakul gives her grandmother a voice. A generation that left their homeland behind versus a generation that was born in the Netherlands. She collects stories from the past, about the silence, the sacrifices, the spiritual suffering, the waiting, the patience, the emptiness. What were their dreams, their desires?
Dilan wonders what she still carries within her of these women, and what she will pass on. Because Dilan also runs up against her role as a woman. What choices does she make as a thirty-something, how much of a woman is she really still? In the music theatre performance, Dilan gives a voice to the first generation of Turkish migrant women, the silent women, and zooms in on their love lives, desires, sorrows and disappointments.
