City Organist Adriaan Hoek Paul Klee Dreams Bach

Paul Klee dreams Bach.

City organist Adriaan Hoek presents a program in which Bach's timeless structures resonate in both Bach's own work and in visual art. Musically, Musikalisches Opfer is central, a masterpiece of counterpoint and musical riddles, in which Bach pushes his compositional inventiveness to the limit.

In addition, in a special AI-driven visual design, the abstract and rhythmic lines of painter Paul Klee enter into a contemporary dialogue with Bach's sound world.

Adrian Hoek

Hoek is the city organist of Rotterdam and a much sought-after concert organist with a wide repertoire, from medieval to contemporary music. He graduated cum laude from the Rotterdam Conservatory and followed further education in Hamburg and Ghent. Hoek has won several international organ prizes and is a regular player of, among other things, the Flentrop organ in the Doelen.

Paul Klee

Paul Klee (1879–1940) was a Swiss-German artist with a distinctive, playful style that emphasized color, line, and imagination. His work balances between abstraction and figuration, and combines influences from Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism. Klee taught at the Bauhaus and is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
