Nitin Parree

Dutch drummer deeply influenced by the jazz of the 1960s—a period he regards as one of the most revolutionary in jazz history. Inspired by legends like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Joe Henderson, Nitin finds particular fascination in the post-bop era, where hard bop merged with free jazz, bringing a surge of individual expression to the genre. This distinctive balance between swing and free jazz elements continues to shape his approach to music. Nitin recently completed his master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he focused his research on the comping techniques of Tony Williams, the legendary drummer for Miles Davis during the 1960s. In the spring of 2022, he participated in an exchange program at Temple University in Philadelphia, studying under Justin Faulkner of the Branford Marsalis Quartet, as well as jazz greats Dick Oatts, Joe Magnarelli, John Swana, and Byron Landham. During his time in Philadelphia, he recorded an album titled Master St with a co-led band called The Dam Jawn, featuring saxophonist Dick Oatts, which includes his original composition "Venango." This album was released in May 2023. An alumnus of both the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Nitin has studied with acclaimed jazz musicians such as Eric Ineke, Martijn Vink, Mark Schilders, Marcel Serierse, Stefan Kruger, and Felix Schlarmann. He has performed at prominent jazz festivals and venues including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Bimhuis, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Wonderfeel Festival, BIRD, Amersfoort Jazz Festival, Grachtenfestival, Cutting Edge, Brebl, and the Dakota Jazz Festival.
